This article is about the track and field event. Jarver, Jess (2004). The Hurdles, Contemporary Theory, Technique and Training. Track & Field News. pp. 9, 63. ISBN 978-0911521672. For the equestrian form, see Hurdling (horse race). Leon Okafor of Austria runs a hurdle at a 2018 event in Linz. Hurdling is the act of running and jumping over an obstacle at speed. In the early 19th century, hurdlers ran at and jumped over each hurdle, landing on both feet and checking their forward motion.

This is the best book i found for vertical jumping. It's excellent with the fundamentals. Vertical Foundations clarifies WHY running fast leads to a higher jump, the biomechanics, the drills, the mental training and techniques to defy gravity. I appreciated the scientific approach as well. The author makes powerful distinctions between types of jumpers as well as form and technique. There is no single recipe for vertical leap - a program needs to be personalized to the athlete. I knew that I shouldn’t overtax my central nervous system, but until I read this book did I understand which drills positively affected my CNS and which caused me to be a low jumper instead of a high jumper.
