The World in a Frame presents forty-six poems by Emily Dickinson and twenty-four drawings by Will Barnet. Barnet's respect and love for Dickinson's poetry sing from the drawings reproduced in this book. From his portraits of the artist ("To pity those that know her not / Is helped by the regret / That those who know her, know her less / The nearer her they get") to his drawing of a cricket on a blade of grass ("But witness for her land, / And witness for her sea, / The cricket is her utmost / Of elegy to me") to his picture of a tree full of crows ("The saddest noise, the sweetest noise, /The maddest noise that grows, -- /The birds, they make it in the spring, / At night's delicious close"), Barnet captures the essence of the poet's work.

Audacity marked Emily Dickinson’s career from the beginning-if career is the right word for her improbable persistence in the face of patronizing advice and general incomprehension. She was born in 1830, the middle child of three.

Audacity marked Emily Dickinson’s career from the beginning-if career is the right word for her improbable persistence in the face of patronizing advice and general incomprehension. Her privileged childhood as a lawyer’s daughter in Amherst, Massachusetts, gave her the time and literary education, as well as the confidence, to try her hand at writing verse.

I have always liked Will Barnet's prints and sketches, but then to locate a book where his prints are matchced so nicely with Emily Dickinson's musical poems - a real treat. Nicely presented. And the Amazon price was a clincher!

I bought this mainly because of the artwork, which is of one of my favorite artists, but I also love Dickinson's poetry so it was a winner in both!!

Will Barnet is a master...and as a New England artist he was the perfect choice to illustrate "Emily."

He is soon to be 101 and still painting...

P.S. Collect his art and his books while you can.

The book is very similar to the way it was described. I appreciate getting it without paying full price. thank you!

This is the perfect gift for a Dickinson lover. In my case, it will be a gift to my daughter Emily, who was named for the Amherst poet by me, a Dickinson lover.
