This book is essential to anyone aspiring to be any kind of actor. The process can be applied across all genre's. I am a student at Ivana Chubbuck's studio in LA, and I have to say that even though I benefit from her actual physical presence and face to face teaching, I couldn't imagine not having the book. It's kind of like our bible (pardon my blasphemy). I have gifted this book to my actor friends who live outside LA, and it has been received well.

So, what is this book without my close personal bias? In short, it's a step by step practical way that shows you how to get the most out of your scene study. Step one leads you into step two, and so on and so forth. And then as a bonus, there are also chapters that give you step by step ways to effectively act out certain circumstances like dying, being drunk, or being high, etc.

Step by Step people! This book is practical! It's not full of theoretical ethereal bull poo poo. It's tried and tested.

I like this book. I bought it because I'm taking her classes next month and you're supposed to read this before you start.

I like it because it BREAKS things down, it's a great process and Ivana is clearly very smart.

It's missing a star because sometimes, I'd get lost. There are a lot of name-drops / examples of celebrities she's worked with, and while I can understand her reasoning for doing that, it was just too much information for me. I wish it was just an example instead of making it more complicated and cluttered by adding the names of celebrities and what she did to work with them. (I have ADHD and it's hard for me to focus and hold attention, so maybe this is just me.

Great book! This is an amazing book for actors but it does not have to be just for actors, it is a book for life, so I recommend it for anyone. I feel by reading this book, one can learn so much about how people act and interact and most importantly you will be so inspired to live an empowered life.
Highly recommend!

This book changed my outlook on actoring entirely. I was on the fence about some things and wasn't sure how to really connect to a character and break down a script until I read this book. After the first chapter I was hooked and didn't want to put it down. It's almost like she's speaking to you. It's easy to read and understand. I love ivana chubbuck! Take her class!

Excellent, thorough, and educating. This is the best acting method around for intelligent actors. It's very psychologically based. The book is very thorough on the method, filled with description and examples.

you cant put this Actors Bible down if you are serious about your art!
The brand new Back To Basics Acting Bible. Distilled from previous important books on the subject. The info is truly the way lasting books on acting are written with the added element of Ivana Chubbuck's candid examples from her real live experiences. Also it is film oriented as many examples are actual films you can watch clips from to see how Ivana herself coached these people to develop their skills. Die hard "Acting is first and only about the stage therefore film or TV comes last." actors will possibly find the present day film examples throughout too mainstream media but in my opinion this is the shot in the arm acting books are lacking. A present day take with all the right basics behind it.
