Helps struggling students write better with 40 cloze-style passages Leads students through the writing process Stimulates creativity with writing frames including The Trials and Tribulations of Being, Daydreams, and more

by Jean L. Pottle (Author). I have been using this book with my two older sons (grades 6 and 8) this year. It's kinda like Mad-Libs for older kids, in paragraph form.

by Jean L. ISBN-13: 978-0825137372. Later, the students are taught to use webbing to brainstorm before filling in the frame. Both my sons were reluctant writers and I was a reluctant writing teacher, but this book, along with the Writing Strands books, has made a huge difference in their approach to writing.

I have been using this book with my two older sons (grades 6 and 8) this year. It's kinda like Mad-Libs for older kids, in paragraph form. In the early lessons, they fill in the blanks in the frame and then edit and revise to produce a final draft. Later, the students are taught to use webbing to brainstorm before filling in the frame. Both my sons were reluctant writers and I was a reluctant writing teacher, but this book, along with the Writing Strands books, has made a huge difference in their approach to writing. One now loves to write and the other, well, he doesn't hate it anymore. I'm ordering the follow-up Writing Frames book for 7-9th graders to use next year. I highly recommend Writing Frames (especially if you use it in tandem or the year before Writing Strands). It's almost painless!

I was told about this book at a workshop. It looks great! It is a good book to use at the beginning of the school year because it gives students a chance to build up their writing ego! :-)
