2010 Reprint of 1903 Edition. The Book of Goetia, or the Lesser Key of Solomon the King [Clavicula Salomonis]. Introductory essay by Aleister Crowley. The Lesser Key of Solomon or, Clavicula Salomonis, is an anonymous 17th-century grimoire, and one of the most popular books of demonology. It has also long been widely known as the Lemegeton. It appeared in the 17th century, but much was taken from texts of the 16th century and late-medieval grimoires. It is likely that books by Jewish kabbalists and Muslim mystics were also inspirations. Some of the material in the first section, concerning the summoning of demons, dates to the 14th century or earlier. The book claims that it was originally written by King Solomon, although this is certainly incorrect. The Lesser Key of Solomon contains detailed descriptions of spirits and the conjurations needed to invoke and oblige them to do the will of the conjurer (referred to as the "exorcist"). It details the protective signs and rituals to be performed, the actions necessary to prevent the spirits from gaining control, the preparations prior to the invocations, and instructions on how to make the necessary instruments for the execution of these rituals.

The Lesser Key of Solomon, also known as Clavicula Salomonis Regis or Lemegeton, is an anonymous grimoire (or spell book) on demonology. It was compiled in the mid-17th century, mostly from materials a couple of centuries older. It is divided into five books-the Ars Goetia, Ars Theurgia-Goetia, Ars Paulina, Ars Almadel, and Ars Notoria. Goetia or Goëtia is a practice that includes the conjuration of demons. Not a book for anyone other than those who wish to learn more about the invocation and evocation of the 72 Goetic demons.

It is what it says it is, to wit, a reprint of the 1903 edition. That said, the choice of font type and size was not well thought out beforehand. Some of the tables and illustrations, and a lot of the text, have such thick strokes on the font, and the font size is kept so small, that many of the letters are extremely hard to make out. They get to the point where they are blurry splotches.

This edition is selling at a very low price, and I'm going to guess cheap printing was a way to keep the price low? Suggestion, charge a bit more next time and make sure it is all readable.

Not much to say on the contents. They are what they are, and you either believe they are effective, are interested in them as a historical curiosity or could care less, so my rating the content is unnecessary here. For what it's worth, it does reproduce the Goetia, and has a good intro by Uncle Al himself.

I bought this for my teen son and he absolutely loved it! Though it looks like a big college text book, it is actually a very thin paperback...which just means it got to us that much more quickly. We were looking for this for a couple of years and finally found one in stock. Very happy with it.
