All-In-One CCIE Lab Study Guide takes you through the experimentation process, helping you develop a sizable body of knowledge about Internet protocols and the equipment that implements them. In 86 laboratory exercises, all well-designed and thoroughly debugged, authors Stephen Hutnick and Michael Satterlee reveal the intricacies of protocols, routing, bridging, and more, as implemented on Cisco Systems gear. The exercises read like something out of a high school physics textbook, with equipment lists and specific setup instructions to follow (this is a good thing).

Table of Contents All−in−One Cisco CCIE Lab Study Guide . Chapter 1: Take the Lab Once and Pass Overview Our goal when writing the CCIE Lab Study Guide was to provide a book that was 100 percent hands−on. Michael Satterlee, CCIE, is a Senior Network Architect at AT&T Global Network Services, where he is responsible for the architecture and design of a Next Generation VPN services. Many of the Cisco−related books on the market only include parts of the routers configuration and do not provide enough information so the reader can completely build and test the configurations.

This book was the reason i was able to pass my CCNA, and CCNP tests to this date.
The review section at the beginning of each chapter, helps you reinforce what you learned in the past, and helps you fill in any blanks you might have had.
Once you start doing the labs, your vision will become clear and you will start hearing yourself say: "Ohh so that's how it works" ...
This book is not really a good source to study for your CCIE however its an invaluable tool for your CCNA, CCNP, CCDA, CCDP study time...

This is a good book to use to study for your CCIE, but it is does not contain enough, or anything on the following important topics that may come up on your CCIE lab DLSw+, SNA, ATM Lane, OSPF area types. Although this book does cover most of the other topics I belive that they do not go into enough detail.

I visited my local bookstore this afternoon, and found a pleasant surprise waiting in the Cisco section. The new 'CCIE Lab Study Guide' by Stephen Hutnik and Michael Satterlee has been released by McGraw-Hill. (ISBN 0-07-135108-6, price: $80). Through a series of 86 lab exercises the authors have done a fine job of documenting the areas to study for the CCIE lab exam.
No matter where you are in your progress towards the exam, this book is a worthwhile addition to your Cisco library. The book begins with a chapter titled, "Take the Lab Once and Pass", a very encouraging statement. The authors have minimized introductory and appendix material, filling the one thousand pages with highly focused, useful material. I was glad to see coverage of topics such as ATM, HSRP, and NTP. While I knew that only the basics of these topics should be mastered for the lab exam, the authors have made this job much easier for me.
The entire book contains output from numerous working configurations. These examples confirm that the authors did not just throw together another theory book, but have taken the time and effort to create scenarios that can be recreated by the reader. A CD accompanies the book, and contains complete configurations so that the reader can copy and paste them into home lab hardware.
In short, this book is one of the most interesting books concerning certification topics. Buy it, and plan to stay up late the night of your purchase. You won't be disappointed.

About the hardest exam to pass, according to the statistics is the CCIE. Considering there are 2 parts, one written and one lab in order to pass and considering all of the information you have to know, it would be a wise investment to find study resources tailored to each exam and this book is made for the lab side.

In the 1200 plus pages you'll work with over 100 scenarios, more than any other book I have seen on this topic so far. You also work with over 100 labs, again far more than any other book in the class.

Covering areas like terminal servers, ISDN, frame relay, ATM, RIP 1 & 2, IGRP, OSPF, EIRGP, BGP, both internal and external, IP and IPX access lists, CDP, NAT and PAT, IPX, AppleTalk, 5000 series switches, DLSW, IPSec, MPLS and security is some of the things you get from this book.

Written for the self pace learning module as well as a perfect book for the classroom training, the authors have given what seems to be more than enough information to work and learn with.

One of the best things was the troubleshooting of all areas and I have already been able to use some of the information in my job. The cd included has configuration examples to work. Overall this is an excellent value for the money.

5/30/99 - As technical reviewer for this book, I can comment on it although it is yet to be published. I believe this book is an excellent implementation guide for those candidates who want to prepare for the Cisco CCIE Lab exam. I also think this will be an excellent reference guide for existing CCIE's as well as anyone who works with Cisco routers. I know that when it is published, it will be one of my most referenced materials. If I want to see how to implement a particular function, I have the concept, the associated commands, multiple example configurations, and status/troubleshooting tools, 'All-in-one' concise section. The material presented is accurate and concise, each concept is presented by itself, without other unrelated information involved to possibly confuse the reader. As stated, each concept is explained, the particular commands relating to the concept are presented and defined, then actual lab configuration examples are presented and explained. At the end of the configuration example, status monitoring and troubleshooting commands relating to the concept are given and defined, which gives the reader the tools to see that the implementation of the concept is functioning as expected, or not.
This book displays an excellent teaching style.

This is a pretty nice book and I'd recommend it for the CCIE Lab preparation. It includes a lot of small scenarions. Each of them is, of course, much easier then the real Lab, and this book doesn't cover everything, but it's still very usefull and I want to explain why. Usually if you use full-size scenarion from ccbootcamp or fatkid they expect you to have 5-9 routers with all features. But let's say you have just 2 or 3 routers and you wonder how you can use them for the Lab preparation. This is exactly what this book was written for. Using this book and a minimal set of equipment you can learn some areas pretty deep. Of course, it's not all in one, it's just a pieces, but if you know how to do each piece it's much easier to do the whole Lab.
