When I studied CCNA, I wrote this thing In each chapter, Todd Lammle lists key terms with which you should be familiar . This indicates stuff Lammle, instructors, and some unreliable friends have told me is not likely to be on the exam.

When I studied CCNA, I wrote this thing. This document is color-coded, with all the IOS commands in violet arial narrow, for example. In each chapter, Todd Lammle lists key terms with which you should be familiar before the exam. Reading it might help your understanding but don’t sweat memorizing it.

Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) The CCNA certification was the first in the new line of Cisco certifications, and was the precursor to all current Cisco certifications. And you don't have to stop there-you can choose to continue with your studies and achieve a higher certification, called the Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP). Just past my exam a few hours ago w/832 and am evaluating that rather painful process. . .
Several things surprised me including the difficulty of the test and the lack of any single valid source to prepare. I used several
Even though this book was to me the foundation of success, it still had HUGE holes regarding test prep. Certainly, the Cisco Press book is ALSO necessary along with IOS experience - I suppose one could get this via router simulations.
I also used test engines: Edge Tests, from hind site were most reliable. Transcenders were somewhat disappointing, though marginally worth the money.
There is no doubt in my mind now that Cisco means business when they say they will prosecute those who divulge test materials. This is especially evident in these training materials as again, NONE were exact representation of the test. Very different experience for me, from my MCSE/Novell background, where evidently most all publishers and practice test developers seemed far in bed w/MS.
Again, this test is very different from any book, any test engine, however, Lammle with the Cisco Press may suffice, if you have some experience. If I can do it, no doubt, you can too . . .

With the large number of preparation materials out there, it's nice to have a "final" prep resource. This book does that job well, though it doesn't quite nail the mark on the current 2.0 testing. Use this guide as a final review to make sure you've got your bases covered well. Do not expect this guide to help you get over 900 on the 2.0 test without some experience or other study. Like I said, it's excellent review material but certainly not exhaustive enough to fully cover the CCNA 2.0 test.

It is a good revision book. I would treat it as revision book. I spend about two hours on re-reading this book before going to take the exam. It can refresh me all the key point, all the important notes in CCNA exam. If you just use this book for your exam, I think it is not 100% to ensure you can pass, so I use it with another study guide also by Todd Lammle. I would also like the part of "Exam Essentials" that can let you know what are the CCNA exam emphasize on, so that you can pay more attention on them. All parts of the content are good enough to let you pass, eg. IOS, LAN switch etc. But the materials about WAN is not good enough actually, even I have read the study guide(not this exam notes), I still cannot 100% handle all the questions about WAN, eg. sth about ISDN, Frame Relay etc. You may need other materials for supplement(I get 75% on WAN protocols).
Anyway, it is a good book

This is an excellent prepatory source for the Cisco CCNA exam, and easily covers the vast majority of topics that are addressed on the exam. Like the other Sybex offering, as you might the book falls very short of being a useful guide to configuring Cisco routers in the real world, so don't study this book, pass the test, and assume you're a Cisco master! However, For those already reasonably knowledgeable abotu the fundamentals of networking, this book alone should be plenty sufficient to pass the exam.

A little experience with Cisco routers and this book are all you need to pass the exam. Reading is extremely fast-paced, after reading it twice (2-3 hours each time) I passed the exam easily with a score of 925.

When you get to about the middle of the book -- finally -- you get to the simple broadcast address, subnet mask calculations and several of those are wrong or have horrendous typographical errors (I.E. no, "255.255.255.255.252" is not a valid netmask...) Its like no one even proofread the thing. The same page referred to has other errors as well. I was really disappointed with this book.
On the other hand the content and depth of topic coverage is good.

Don't try to use this book to learn the subject, but do use it to review for the test. It clearly and succinctly outlines all the things you need to know, so you can identify whether you're ready or not, and do some last minute cramming. The review questions were good -- a couple of them exactly matched ones that I encountered on the actual exam.
I liked the book for a quick prep review before taking the CCNA exam. However you need to use also the Cisco ICRC book with hands on practice with Cisco router to really learn the stuff. Great for exam review but not for learning Cisco without the other book.
