All in all a charming little book - makes a good conversation piece too! ("You're reading WHAT?") 3 people found this helpful.

Mr. Ward, the author, taught high school English in Taiwan for many years, and this is his tribute to the people and nation of Taiwan. It begins with a brief geography lesson, and the book itself is about the history of Taiwan with some personal anecdotes thrown in for good measure, along with some 1960s-era Communist Chinese bashing. I noticed one of the reviewers is named McCrackin - that's a joke, right? Actually, this is a pretty harmless little book, despite its somewhat racist/scatalogical title. The title is what prompted me to buy the book - when I first saw it, I thought, "What on earth? I have got to find out what this is all about." The book is only about 100 pages long (I am assuming it is out of print). All in all a charming little book - makes a good conversation piece too! ("You're reading WHAT?")

The author was my geography teacher in 1970. I love the way this book is written. The book depicts our lives in Taiwan, with such a good sense of humor. Anyone who travels or lives abroad will get a big kick out of this book.

Just as I remembered it.

Cheryl, You must have went to school at TAS, I was there from 1969-1973. Remember "Senior Island" with the moat around it? I was there when Art Linkletter came there and gave a speech about drugs, it was right after his daughter, Diane Linkletter, committed suicide by jumping out of her kitchen window. So Sad. The book has some good memories and I still have a copy of it and I think I will find it and read it again and go down memory lane.
