Like almost every other Lonely Planet author he knows, Neil Wilson fell into the guidebook-writing business by accident. But academia turned out to be just as dull and constricting as industry, so like any sane person he decided to give it all up to be a penniless freelance writer. Neil submitted a portfolio of his travel photos and smarmed his way through an interview, and next thing he knew he was off to photograph Corfu for a guidebook.

Talk about Lonely Planet Edinburgh Encounter (Best Of)

A great little book to quickly find restaurants, entertainment, and accommodation in any part of the city you are in. This was the only guide book I ever bought while I lived in Edinburgh and it came in handy all the time. Anytime your in a neighborhood and want to find a place to eat or learn a quick bit of history its great to whip out and quickly look up what you need.

I love Lonely Planet guide books. They have never let me down and I would recommend them for your journey to any destination.
I bought both this guide and the DK Eyewitness Scotland guide before my trip to Edinburgh. This handy, little, pocket guide was well worth every penny. It was much more informative, had great ideas and suggested fantastic, don't miss, sights. It has everything you need to have a great trip in a city you don't know. The fold out map was a great help too.

The food/restaurant section was hit and miss.A couple of the places we tried were fantastic...a couple of other, terrible. Do not do the Mexican food in Scotland despite what the guide book says. Enough said.

This is the only book you need. It fits in your purse/backpack. We wrote all over ours before we left and hit everything we wanted to do and see.
We used this for our November trip to Edinburgh, and we wanted a small, cheap book to take along with us. The map was good, but we used little else in the book, probably because we were only in town for a couple of days and just grabbed a more easily useable map in the hotel.
A thorough volume of all of the local spots.
I got it on time as described in description so no issues product is good and worth the amount paid...
I purchased this guidebook for my recent trip to Edinburgh Scotland and I was extremely pleased with all of the useful information. The book breaks down each area of the city and tells you what you can do there, good places to eat, and great pubs/clubs you can visit. Each section also has a map showing where each detailed location is. Also, in the back of the book there is a larger fold out map showing the whole city. Depending on how long you are staying, the book suggests itineraries to help you get the most out of your trip. The guidebook is a convenient size that fits easily into a purse or bag but is also easily carried without feeling weighed down. I would recommend this book to any one traveling to Edinburgh, especially if it is your first visit.

Thanks for the Edinburgh experience - had a great time!

My favorite spots - the Parliament Building, the Castle, Old Town, and Arthur's Seat.
This little book is great! I plan on a vacation to Scotland and this book has been very informative to plan my vacation. I highly recommend it to everyone going there.
