I have been studying life in Paris in the 19th century and wanted a book with maps and information about the various areas of the city relative to its importance as an artistic capital. While this book has that information it is very hard to follow. The material is not presented in a chronological way and even skips around geographically at times. I think this might be best used as a tour guide or in planning a visit to Paris with lots of walking and eating and drinking involved.

Interesting review of Paris, great index with references for other good reads. Recommended to me by travel guide on Paris trip after I had returned home and wanted to know more.
